Black women are severely underrepresented in the occupational therapy profession, making up less than 5% of occupational therapists nationwide. Among those professionals is Monica Titus (B.S. ’93), founder and president of Impressions Pediatric Therapy. In 1993, Titus graduated from Howard University's occupational therapy Program. According to U.S. News and World Report in 2024, the program ranks as one of the top 100 best occupational therapy programs in the nation.

Since 1994, Alternative Spring Break (ASB) has provided Howard students with the opportunity to serve numerous communities across the country during their spring break. This year, ASB sent more than 1,300 students to serve in 22 cities, including Buffalo, New York; Detroit; Memphis, Tennessee; and Tampa, Florida.
Howard sophomores Alexandria Fuller and Lauren McNair were both assigned to serve in Albany, Georgia. During their time in Albany, Fuller and McNair’s initiatives were redevelopment and youth holistic wellness.

Students share stories about the difference giving makes

Howard University students will benefit from the record $1.3 million raised at Charter Day Dinner 2025. Guests at the dinner — inspired by the night’s theme, “The Power of Possibility” — gave to the campaign, which raises funds that are used to clear the balances of graduating seniors, freeing them of that debt. Students in a “Charter Day Student Spotlight” video told passionately of what difference those donations made for them.

Chevron has been a valued partner of Howard University for years, graciously donating more than $1.5 million to the University. Chevron’s contributions come in the form of donations and through programming and facilities that propel the academic and professional careers of countless Howard students. Many Howard alumni are employees of Chevron and actively return to Howard’s campus to inform students of the opportunities at Chevron and assist with overall professional development.

Lifelong learning is a value James Washington, Jr. (B.A., ’58) follows aggressively in his nine decades on Earth. The retired paratrooper came to Howard on the advice of an Army buddy who told him, “It’ll be a decision you’ll never regret.” And with a degree in mechanical engineering from what today is the College of Engineering and Architecture, Washington has lived a colorful life, taking up flying in his 40s and motorcycling in his 80s.

Howard University proudly celebrates Women’s History Month, recognizing the way women have advanced and changed culture and society.
One of the biggest change-makers this past year was former Vice President Kamala Harris (’86, B.A.). She made a momentous run for the presidency, and convened her concluding campaign rally on The Yard, where she told the rapt audience, “Let us fill the sky with the light of a brilliant, brilliant billion of stars. The light, the light of optimism, of faith, of truth and service.”
