Students share stories about the difference giving makes

Howard University students will benefit from the record $1.3 million raised at Charter Day Dinner 2025. Guests at the dinner — inspired by the night’s theme, “The Power of Possibility” — gave to the campaign, which raises funds that are used to clear the balances of graduating seniors, freeing them of that debt. Students in a “Charter Day Student Spotlight” video told passionately of what difference those donations made for them.

“My time at Howard University has been filled with unparalleled opportunities and transformative experiences thanks to the support of the alumni and friends of the University,” said Jamari Robinson, a junior who is a criminology/political science major.

Robinson continued, “I’ve joined one of the world’s preeminent law fraternities, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, International; became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Beta Chapter; and I am a member of the ROTC program. With these experiences, I know I am being prepared for success and will continue to set a standard of greatness for those that come after us.”

“Who would have known that I could have so many possibilities to strive toward my full potential. I’ve been a chairwoman of the Howard Homecoming fashion show, and been published on Vogue and Spring Hill,” said Quincy Willingham, a senior who is a fine arts major. “So, thank you, Howard, for showing me the power of possibility.”

Overall, $40,000 was raised during the sold-out Charter Day Dinner. During the affair, 193 donors gave $29,480 through a QR code placed at each table.

The event was held at the Marriott Marquis Washington DC for the second year. Actor/producer/TV host Anthony Anderson (BFA, ’22) returned as emcee with his signature wit and charm. Toward the end of the night, in the giving spirit, he announced he would donate $5,000 if the audience matched it, after one of Howard’s trustees called for the crowd to match his $10,000 donation.
