The Oliver: DAR moves to new home
By Deidra W. Hill, Ed.D.
The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) has moved into Howard’s newest building on campus, The Oliver, located on Georgia Avenue, adjacent to the School of Business. The $40 million mixed-use facility symbolizes the important work of DAR in gathering people together around a common goal—supporting the greatest needs of Howard University and the community.
Through the implementation of various strategic, best-practice fundraising efforts and initiatives, the division raises critical funds to support the advancement of the University's mission. Complete with a variety of meeting spaces and entertainment opportunities, The Oliver helps to position DAR for growth and to reach its full fundraising potential.
Perhaps the best part about the move is that DAR is now on campus and better positioned for hosting fundraising events and participating in activities on the main campus. The modern building is complete with audiovisual rooms for virtual meetings, plenty of conference room space, an entertainment area, office furnishings and lounge areas.
The Oliver serves as a mixed-use facility. In addition to new workspace, the other side is the newest housing facility for faculty, staff, and graduate and professional students. A community environment has been created for residents, with a fitness center, study rooms, rooftop terrace and onsite parking. Resident apartments feature contemporary amenities, including stainless steel appliances, built-in shelving and private decks as well as walk-in closets, moveable kitchen islands and floor-to-ceiling windows.
According to Walk Score, The Oliver is well rated: 87 very walkable, 86 very bikeable and 78 excellent transit.
