Impact Howard Year-End Challenge Finishes Big

Howard mother and son

With the magnanimous support of Bison alumni, friends and supporters, Howard University raised $1,322,740 in the Impact Howard Year-End Challenge 2024 as of Jan. 6. In the campaign, the University’s array of Impact Funds and other funds were supported by more than a thousand donors as of Jan. 6: 886 alumni, 98 friends, 45 parents, 17 faculty, 13 staff and 4 students.

Giving Tuesday, the annual worldwide day promoting activism and giving to charitable organizations, was the kickoff for the Impact Howard Year-End Challenge. Each year, Giving Tuesday is the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and in 2024 fell on Dec. 3. On Giving Tuesday alone, the Howard community raised $178,975.29 from 448 donors through our GiveCampus platform for its exceptional students and its world-renowned programs.

Moreover, thanks to a generous party, donations to Giving Tuesday and the Impact Howard Year-End Challenge were matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $500,000. This reflects a solid commitment to the quality education Howard provides and a deep investment in the institution as it develops young minds into leaders in every endeavor.

Thank you to the alumni and friends who are no longer with us, but years ago, made a future commitment of support to Howard with a legacy gift. Legacy gifts are some of the largest gifts received by charity. These gifts are planned during the donor’s lifetime and realized at the end of the donor’s life. The typical legacy gift tends to be 200 times a donor’s annual gift. Whether bequeathed from a donor’s estate or from a beneficiary designation like retirement assets, or life insurance, these gifts can equal millions. In 2024, Howard University received over $2.4 million dollars in legacy gifts, that will support the Impact Funds and scholarships.

Have you included Howard in your estate plans? Please let us know so we can thank you, recognize you, and include you as a member of the Legacy Giving Society.
