A love letter to Howard

By Michelle Janaye Nealy
O Howard. A beacon of dreams and a bastion of brilliance.
If I had to live my life 100 times over, I would choose Howard University every SINGLE time. There is no better place to find yourself, hone your confidence, connect to the African diaspora and anchor yourself in Black excellence.
In a world where I am too often “the only,” Howard University equipped me with unwavering resolve, faith that moves mountains, and steadfast assurance that I rightfully deserve access to every room I walk in. And if for some reason I am denied entry, then propelled by that Bison spirit, I’ll build my own room.
In the richness of Howard’s tapestry, I found our history and an incredible community. To be an alum is to belong to a global fraternity of distinction, a lineage of trailblazers, visionaries, and changemakers.
It is impossible to talk about the history of our nation without mentioning Howard. There is no other place like it.
*Sings* I’m so glad I went to Howard U … and so did my baby cousin (in the white dress), who graduated this weekend.
In service and truth ….
