Current HUAA Role: HUAA Region III Representative and HUAC of Atlanta Fundraising & Event Chair
Melanie Felton, a proud 1987 graduate of Howard University School of Allied Health (Physical Therapy), exemplifies the Bison motto of Excellence in Truth and Service. Her lifelong commitment to Howard University is reflected through her transformative leadership with the Howard University Alumni Club of Atlanta (HUACA). Melanie has served HUACA in several critical leadership roles, including Events & Fundraising Chair, Bison Fest Chair, Social Media Chair, and most recently as Howard University Alumni Association Region III Representative. In these capacities, she led innovative and highly successful fundraising initiatives such as Giving Tuesday campaigns, scholarship telethons, memorial scholarship appeals, and named donor and book award programs. Signature efforts—including HUACA’s Holiday Party and Charter Day Giving—helped raise more than $120,000, directly supporting “Baby Bison” pursuing their academic dreams. Her leadership extends beyond fundraising. Following the sudden passing of fellow alumnus Binford Carter, Melanie played a pivotal role in a collaborative initiative with the City of Atlanta and the American Heart Association to install Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at Shirley Clarke Franklin Park—transforming tragedy into a lasting, life-saving legacy.
Melanie has also revitalized HUACA by strengthening engagement between longtime members and emerging alumni through inclusive programming and outreach, leading more than 20 alumni meet-ups and events and achieving one of the highest participation totals for the HBCU 5K during her tenure. Her service has been widely recognized. In May 2025, Melanie received the HUAA Outstanding Alumni Award for Engagement, and she was also honored as Soror Chairman of the Year for Alpha Kappa Alpha initiatives focused on empowering seniors. She was inducted into The Links, Incorporated, Camellia Rose Chapter (GA), in May 2025.
