This document serves as the official HUAA Elections Code, providing a comprehensive framework for elections of Association Officers and Regional Chairs. Developed by the Department of Alumni Relations (DAR), it establishes the rules of conduct, eligibility requirements, and enforcement mechanisms designed to ensure a fair, transparent, and professional election process.

FAQs

Who is eligible to vote in the HUAA elections?

To vote in the HUAA elections, you must: 

  • Be a Howard University alumna/us with an earned degree

Per the Election Guidelines:
“A voter must be a degreed alumna/us.”
 

Do I need to pay dues to vote?

No. HUAA does not require dues for membership or voting eligibility.

How will I receive my ballot?

Eligible voters will receive a secure voting link via email and/or text message from ElectionBuddy.

  • The link is unique to you
  • It can only be used once
     

What if I did not receive my ballot?

I updated my information, but I still did not receive a ballot by phone or email?

How long will it take to receive my ballot after completing the form?

Once you submit the ballot request form, your information will be reviewed by the Elections Committee.
 

Please note that only degree-holding Howard University alumni are eligible to vote, and it is important that the form is completed accurately and in full to avoid delays.

Eligible voters can expect to receive their ballot within 48 business hours after verification.

When does voting open and close?

  • Voting Opens: March 23, 2026, at 10:00 PM (ET)
  • Voting Closes: April 10, 2026, at 11:59 PM (ET)
     

Can I vote more than once?

No. Each voter receives a single-use access key.

Can I change my vote after submitting it?

No. Once submitted, votes are final.

Will my vote be confidential?

Yes. Voting is secure and confidential.

Can I vote for candidates outside of my region?

No. Voting is limited to your assigned region per your physical address (Region I - Region IV).

Why am I allowed to vote for Region VII?

Region VII represents all school-based, interest-based, and professional alumni associations/clubs. As a result, all eligible voters (degreed alumni in good standing) may vote for Region VII candidates, regardless of geographic location.

Want to Learn More About HUAA?

Since 1964, HUAA has provided 60 years of service to Howard graduates and built bonds with them around the globe. HUAA was founded as the Howard University Alumni Federation, which soon had 40 alumni clubs “in cities stretching from the state of Washington to the islands of the West Indies,” stated the Handbook for Alumni Clubs published in May 1965.
