Golden Reunion celebrates lifelong connection
By Lauren Ivey
As the Howard University community prepares for Commencement, anticipation is also building for one of the University’s most cherished traditions, Golden Reunion Weekend, taking place May 7–10. This special occasion welcomes distinguished alumni back to the Yard for a meaningful celebration of legacy, leadership and lifelong connection to Howard.
This year, the University proudly honors the Classes of 1976, 1971, 1966 and 1961, bringing together generations of Bison who helped shape Howard’s history and whose impact continues to resonate far beyond campus. Golden Reunion Weekend offers alumni the opportunity to reflect on their Howard experience, reconnect with classmates, and celebrate friendships and bonds that have endured for decades.
A defining highlight of the weekend will be a historic tribute to the Class of 1976, which returns for Commencement wearing commemorative regalia to mark 50 years since their graduation. As they join the processional, their presence will serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of Howard alumni and the profound influence they have had in communities around the world. Their participation embodies a truth well known to every Bison: Once you attend Howard, you are Howard, always.
Golden Reunion Weekend is thoughtfully curated to balance celebration with reflection and purpose. Alumni will participate in a series of gatherings designed to foster fellowship, philanthropy and shared storytelling. Reunion registration includes a commemorative cap and gown for Commencement, an official 50th Reunion medallion, and a keepsake class journal where alumni can record memories, reflections, and messages that preserve the legacy of their class for generations to come.
As part of this milestone celebration, alumni are encouraged to honor their class legacy through giving. Those who made their class gift will be recognized on the reunion honor roll, an enduring testament to their continued investment in the future of Howard University and the next generation of Bison leaders.
With Commencement approaching and excitement building across campus, alumni are encouraged to register early and RSVP by April 17 to ensure their participation. Hotel accommodations also should be secured soon, as the early-registration discount concludes April 9, and attendance is expected to be strong for this milestone gathering.
