Howard University Dat at Nationals Park

MLB’s Washington Nationals welcomed Howard University earlier this month for its annual College Day series. Alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of the University attended the game against the rival Philadelphia Phillies, which lost to the Nats, 3-2.

Howard was represented with the “Showtime” Marching Band greeting the Bison community at Nationals Park’s front gate and HU students Hannah Jackson, Jonathan Walters Suber, Shaques Buck and Anaiya Smith sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” during the pregame. Guests who registered early were feted at a pre-game reception.

The team also partnered with Howard to provide special College Day Nationals jerseys – which sold out early – that sport the Howard Bison logo on the right sleeve and the number 24 on the back, marking the current season. The event also was an early commemoration of Jackie Robinson Day, which honors the trailblazing baseballer who broke the color line in the modern baseball era.
