May 2024 Newsletter: Hilltop Highlight

The annual Bison Strong From Start to Finish 2024 campaign for the HUAA Emergency Scholarship Fund, assists seniors in clearing their financial balances before graduation. This year there were more than 1,000 graduating seniors in need with remaining balances of more than $ 3.1 million. The generous support of more than 876 donors helped us raised nearly $200,000. Every donation, regardless of size, plays a crucial role in ensuring our graduating students can focus on their achievements without financial burden. Your contribution matters and is immensely appreciated as we unite to empower the next generation of Bison. Here are reactions from three of the many scholarship recipients this year.

 

Brooklyn King

“I can’t explain the level of relief this has given me as I enter postgraduate life. I recently completed my Student Teaching Internship at Cardozo Education Campus, so I am currently in the interview process with a few D.C. public schools. I am hopeful that by graduation, I will receive a full-time offer to teach middle or high school English language arts! Thanks to you, I can now focus on my interviews without extreme anxiety, and I am forever grateful for that.”

Reanna Jones

“Looking ahead, I am excited to embark on an internship with Disney at Marvel Games in integrated planning, leveraging the skills and knowledge gained from my computer engineering degree obtained at Howard University. My ultimate goal is to harness this expertise to make meaningful contributions to the game design and development industry for Black and brown people the world over.”

Dwayne Williams

“As I move into my future as an adult and esteemed alumnus of Howard University it is my aim to inspire the community through financial literacy education and wealth building through my employment at JP Morgan Chase & Co. To fix the injustices of the world, we have to be in the rooms with the people who hold the power and resources to do so, and this is my first step in that direction.”
