Dylan Beard (’23, MPH), a distinguished alumnus from the Class of 2023, continually exemplifies the spirit of excellence and perseverance. With a master’s degree in public health under his belt, Beard has not only excelled academically but has also soared to great heights in athletics.

Currently, Beard is setting his sights on the grandest stage of them all, the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Earlier this year, he clinched a major triumph in track and field, securing victory in the 60-meter hurdles at the prestigious Melrose Games. Clocking in at an impressive 7.44 seconds, this marked the fastest time of his illustrious career.

“Being at Howard opened me up to opportunities both on and off the track. I was afforded with amazing experiences that pushed my academic interests and career, while also moving my track career forward. I’ve made so many connections and friendships that continue to support me today. Without Howard University I’m not sure I would be on the same path I am on today,” Beard said.

Hailing from Baltimore, Maryland, Beard’s journey has taken him across borders and continents. He showcased his prowess on the international stage by competing in the Pan-Am Games in Santiago, Chile, where his talent shone brightly during two weeks of intense competition. Following his remarkable victory at the Melrose Games, Beard excelled on the national stage, participating in the USA Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Despite fierce competition, he displayed his mettle by securing the fifth position with a time of 7.65 seconds.

In recognition of his outstanding performance, Beard was named the MEAC Track Athlete of the Week last spring, further cementing his status as a trailblazer in the field of athletics.

Representing the United States, Beard embodies the spirit of the Howard University community. Let us rally behind Dylan Beard in his pursuit of Olympic glory, knowing he carries with him the legacy of excellence that defines the Howard experience.
