Beyond the Yard: Feature Story

Golden Reunion kicks off challenge

By Kelvin Childs

An incredibly special group is poised to attend “100th Homecoming: Howard University Yard of Fame”: the Class of 1974. In celebrating its Golden Reunion, that cohort has witnessed and participated in Howard’s development and growth over the past five decades.

To solidify Howard’s place among the nation’s elite institutions of learning, the Class of 1974 launched its Golden Reunion fundraising campaign. The target of $1 million benefits the students flocking to enroll at Howard, as well as the innovative research and dynamic instruction that puts Alma Mater at No. 2 on the U.S. News & World Report list of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, as well as No. 10 in Best Undergraduate Teaching, No. 31 in Most Innovative Schools and No. 90 in Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs.

Donors who contribute $2,000 or more will be named to the Class of 1974 Honor Roll and will receive other special notice during the Homecoming Weekend. The classes of 1944, 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964 and 1969 also are challenged to top past totals for their alumni years.

Homecoming Week – from Sunday, Oct. 13 to Sunday, Oct. 20 – will be full of exciting events for alumni, students, family, the local community and friends and supporters.
