Welcome Dominic Carter

HU Welcomes New Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life

Greetings from Greek Affairs and Campus Life,

I am Dominic Carter, the new assistant director of Fraternity and Sorority Life here at Howard University. I have been with the Bison family for more than three years in the Department of Enrollment Management, and now Campus Life! I am also a proud Spring 2011 initiate of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Gamma Kappa Chapter.

It is a great honor for me to advise such an abundant Greek life here at Howard University.  We have more than 30 active Greek and selective organizations. Our Greek organizations compose two governing bodies.

The first is the National Pan-Hellenic Council, which is composed of nine  international Greek letter sororities and fraternities known as the Divine 9. Five of these organizations were founded here at Howard University and all nine are active and conducting programming. The NPHC has been promoting interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information while engaging in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions.

The second is the Council of Fraternal Organizations (CFO). The CFO serves as the advisory body to the Office of Campus Life in the development of policies, initiatives and programs related to the Greek Community of recognized fraternities, sororities and similar organizations at Howard University. The CFO serves as the governing council for all fraternities, sororities and similar organizations not recognized by the National Pan-Hellenic Council such as honor societies, professional Greek organizations, Greek and social fellowship organizations and local-based (selective-membership) clubs/organizations.

Our Greek organizations continue to carry the torch of legacy by serving our campus and the Washington, D.C., community. In the past few years, they have shown amazing resolve and versatility by maintaining programming and membership through the confines of the pandemic. The ingenuity displayed by the organizations allowed them to still fulfill community needs through this time. We are proud to say that all restrictions on programing because of the pandemic are lifted and Howard University Greek life continues to thrive!

We always look forward to seeing our Bison family return, so if you are ever on campus, please stop by the Greek Affairs office in the Blackburn University Center!

Sincerely,

Dominic Carter
