Professional Achievements & Service

Philip A. Pratt is a third-generation Southernite with deep roots in Gary, Indiana, and a profound commitment to service. A 2004 graduate of Southern University & A&M College with a B.S. in Social Work, he relocated to the DMV that same year, embarking on a distinguished career in public service. With over 16 years of government service, Philip currently works at the District of Columbia’s Child & Family Services Agency, where he currently leads as Team Lead Resource Development Specialist in Kinship Support Services. His impact was recognized early with the Agency Director’s Inaugural Four Pillar Award in 2014.

Driven by a passion for systemic change, Philip earned his Master of Social Work from Howard University in 2018, in Community Administration & Policy Practice with Displaced Populations. While at Howard, he served as Executive President of the Student Council Association and represented graduate affairs in HUSA. His studies also took him abroad for international service learning in Cape Town, South Africa.

Philip’s leadership extends across the profession. He currently serves as President of the NASW-Maryland Chapter, President of the Howard University School of Social Work Alumni Association, and Senior Strategist for Community Engagement for the HU Rainbow Alumni Association. He is also a board member for the Center for Black Health & Equity. When not advocating for vulnerable communities, Philip enjoys traveling abroad, reading Black American history, and spending time with his beloved dogs, Karlie and Bentlee.

His academic foundational BSW from Southern University and A&M College and an MSW from Howard University School of Social Work combined with his specialized focus on Community Administration and Policy Practice with Displaced Populations, equips him with the knowledge and skills to address complex social challenges. Phillis leadership roles as President of NASW-MD and President (and former Vice President) of the Howard University School of Social Work Alumni Association (HUSSWAA) reflect his dedication to professional development, advocacy, and organizational growth. He is recognized for fostering collaboration, inspiring others, and championing policies that promote equity and social justice. His passion for service, strategic vision, and ability to engage diverse stakeholders make him an outstanding choice for this role.
