Professional Achievements & Service

Muhammad M. Salaam is a 2005 graduate of Howard University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He has been an active member of the Howard University Alumni Association (HUAA) since 2014.

A charter member of the Howard University Alumni Club of Greater Columbia, Muhammad served as Club President from 2019 to 2024. During his tenure, he strengthened scholarship fundraising, expanded member engagement, and enhanced the club’s community impact. His service progression includes prior roles as Vice President and Fundraising Co-Chair.

At the national level, Muhammad served as a Constituent Unit President (CUP) Representative on the HUAA Executive Council from 2019 to 2022 and currently serves as Social Media Committee Chairman, supporting alumni communication and engagement across regions and constituent units. In 2023, he was honored with the HUAA President’s Award in recognition of his leadership and service.

Beyond HUAA, Muhammad serves in leadership roles within Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated at the chapter, district, and regional levels. As South Carolina Project Alpha and March of Dimes Coordinator, he administered a $200,000 grant supporting teen pregnancy prevention initiatives and has helped raise more than $130,000 statewide for the March of Dimes mission since 2021.

Professionally, Muhammad is a Statistician with the South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Office of Substance Use Services. With over 20 years of experience in statistical analysis and performance reporting, he supports statewide outcome measurement and data-driven decision-making. His professional background in analytics, accountability, and strategic planning strengthens his approach to alumni leadership.
