Great finish to Year-End Challenge
By Kelvin Childs
Howard enters the New Year with a bang! Donations to the Impact Howard Year-End Challenge topped $400,000, thanks to generous alumni and supporters.
Those donors recognize the value of Howard University, which provides a world-class education to stellar students from around the country and across the globe. Gifts to the Impact Howard Year-End Challenge are unrestricted, making them available for any of the University’s pressing needs in infrastructure, academic programs and scholarships.
Donations to GivingTuesday are bundled into the Impact Howard Year-End Challenge tally. GivingTuesday, the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, is the global day of “radical generosity.” In that campaign, Howard received 515 gifts totaling $194,344.63. That amount was matched dollar-for-dollar, resulting in $388,689.36 provided to the University.
With GivingTuesday and the Impact Howard Year-End Challenge, these donations make for a stronger University. Howard is the first and only HBCU to achieve R-1 designation as a top-flight research institution, reflecting not only the quality of its research but also the prodigious number of doctoral degrees it awards.
However, one of the University’s goals is to build on its 60% four-year graduation rate, the better to launch its students into the world. Donations to Howard not only make it possible for them to graduate with little or no debt; the gifts enhance the college experience, from better features in campus housing to modernized equipment in classrooms and laboratories. Many thanks to all who gave.
Donations to the Impact Howard Funds can be directed to the school, college or University program of your choice.
