Julius C. Jefferson Jr. (BA 2003), section head of the Congressional Research Service at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., has been elected president-elect of the American Library Association (ALA). As ALA president, Jefferson will be the chief elected officer for the oldest and largest library association in the world. Read the Article

Lila Owens (BS 1995)

Howard University alumna and entrepreneur Lila Owens (BS 1995) is bringing artisan sweet treats to California’s Bay Area with the recent expansion of her gourmet bakery, Cupcakin’ Bake Shop. What Owens started as a small catering business run out of her Berkeley home has grown to a chain of retail cupcake shops in three locations across in her hometown of Oakland and Berkeley. Howard University alumna Hazel L. Breland (BS 2001), PhD, ORT/L, FAOTA, CLA, assumes the role of ARHP president in October. She is the 50th person to hold that honor, and the organization’s first African-American leader. As ARHP president, Dr. Breland will focus on interprofessional collaboration and brings a unique practice and research perspective on interprofessional collaboration and health disparities.
